Your study visit may take place in one of two sites, or across both sites in one visit. Both locations are at Mason’s Fairfax Campus. Your Visit Coordinator will provide you with details.

The JackLab

This is where we do everything except MRI scans. Participants visit us in the JackLab at David King Hall to participate in focus groups, surveys, interviews, testing, or use our MRI simulator (a full-sized “practice MRI” that doesn’t actually take pictures of your brain, but lets you get a feel for what it’s like inside the scanner). The Johnson Center, across from David King, has a full complement of dining and retail options if you are looking for a break before, after, or during your visit.

MRI Facility

We conduct brain scans using the MRI machine at Peterson Hall. This building is conveniently located about a 10 minute walk from our lab space, or a 2 minute drive. If you need a break before or after your scan, a variety of retail dining options are available directly across the street at Merten Hall.

How to get to the Jacklab

  • • We are located on the George Mason Fairfax Campus. Directions to the Fairfax campus via various routes can be found online here.

    • Once on campus, proceed to the Shenandoah Parking Deck (Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Wayz will all find this location if you search "Shenandoah Parking Deck Fairfax"). This deck has two entrances; use the first one on your left to enter the visitor parking section. A research staff member will meet you at the 3rd floor exit from the deck (this is the "ground level"; you will see a Mason shuttle stop as you leave the stairwell or elevator). We will provide you with parking validation and walk a short distance with you to David King Hall, where our lab is located.

  • • The CUE bus (map and schedule here) provides stops on both its Green and Gold routes for the Mason campus and the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metro Station (Orange line.) Stops 123, 29, and 30 (on map) for the CUE are all located close to our MRI facility, Peterson Hall (#123 is immediately across the street from the building). Please let your Visit Coordinator know if you intend to arrive via bus, so we can arrange for your visit to start at the MRI center (to minimize your walking).

    • Unfortunately, Mason shuttle service is currently limited to Mason students, staff, & faculty due to COVID-19 restrictions. Those with a Mason ID can learn more about the On-Demand and Mason to Metro shuttles at the included links.

  • If you intend to visit us using Uber, Lyft, or another rideshare service, please let your Visit Coordinator know in advance.

  • Residential students who wish to participate should arrive at David King Hall for their visit. Our lab is located in Room 1019 (the bottom floor of the building). David King is the building directly across from the Johnson center.
